Musika awarded for supporting women entrepreneurs in the agriculture sector
Musika received an award by The Pan-Africa African Women's Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) in recognition of its efforts in supporting women entrepreneurship in Zambia.
The award was presented by The First Lady, Mrs Esther Lungu who is also the Pan-African AWEP Chairperson, at a gala dinner held on Wednesday 1st November 2017.
Having identified the output market (specifically the legume output!market) as one that has the potential to empower women farmers, in 2016, Musika intensified its financial and technical support to selected output companies that present an opportunity for empowering women through outgrower schemes or rather the companies ability to stimulate a pull effect on women' access to all other markets.
Another key strategy for the year was to build capacity amongst women intermediaries to manage women focused outgrower schemes.
As result, 36,801 female smallholder farmers realised a financial benefit through participation in improved agricultural market systems between 2012 and 2015.
